But with increasing popularity the risk of cyber threats also increases. There has been a rise in cases like online fraud, phishing links and account hacking. In such a situation, the security of your WhatsApp account becomes very important.
Here we are telling you five such easy but effective measures by which you can keep your account safe.

WhatsApp lets you lock your private chats. Locked chats are moved from the main chat list to the “Locked Chats” folder.
In Android and iOS:
- Tap and hold or swipe up on a chat
- Select More Options
- Tap Lock Chat
On the Web and Windows:
- Right click on chat
- Select Lock Chat
As soon as the device is locked, the chat will automatically stop and no one will even get information about it.
2️⃣ Control the visibility of profile photo
Your profile photo appears in notifications. You can limit its visibility if you want.
Android:
Settings > Privacy > Profile Photo
विकल्प चुनें: Everyone / My Contacts / My Contacts Except… / Nobody
iOS:
Settings > Privacy > Profile Photo
Choose your preferred option
This step helps protect your identity.
3️⃣ Turn on biometric lock
Use App Lock for added security.
- Android: Fingerprint या Face Unlock
- iOS: Touch ID या Face ID
- Web: Password
With this, only you will be able to open the app, even if the phone is in someone else’s hand.
4️⃣ Use the ‘View Once’ feature
Use the View Once feature when sending sensitive photos, videos, or voice messages.
- Content disappears after viewing once
- Doesn’t save in gallery
- Ban on taking screenshots
This feature increases the security of your personal information.
5️⃣ Set status privacy
By default the status is visible to all contacts, but you can customize it.
- show to selected people
- Exclude some contacts
- Use Mentions Feature
Keep in mind, people you mention can share further.
WhatsApp has many inbuilt security features that keep your account safe. But ultimate safety depends on your vigilance.
Check privacy settings from time to time, avoid clicking on unknown links, and do not share your verification code with anyone.
A little caution can make your digital life safer.
