Canadian PM Carney is coming to India, will discuss these issues during his four-day visit, emphasis will be on improving relations
Delhi. India on Thursday said talks next week between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney will provide an opportunity to take forward the future-oriented partnership between the two countries. Carney will be on a four-day visit to India from Friday, which will be his first visit to India as Prime Minister. The objective of this visit is mainly to provide new impetus to bilateral relations. In the year 2023, there was serious tension in the relations between the two countries after the diplomatic dispute over the killing of a Khalistani separatist in Canada.
The Canadian Prime Minister’s first stop will be Mumbai, where he will participate in various business events and interact with top Indian and Canadian corporate leaders, financial experts and innovators. Carney will reach New Delhi on Sunday and there will be extensive talks between the two Prime Ministers on Monday. The Ministry of External Affairs said the two leaders will review the progress achieved so far in various areas of the India-Canada strategic partnership, building on their previous meetings in Kananaskis in June last year and Johannesburg in November last year.
The ministry said, “This visit is taking place at an important stage of normalizing India-Canada bilateral relations.” According to the statement of the Ministry of External Affairs, “The Prime Ministers of the two countries have already agreed to pursue a constructive and balanced partnership, which will be based on mutual respect for each other’s concerns and sensitive issues, strong people-to-people ties and growing economic mutual complementarity.” According to the statement, “This upcoming meeting between the leaders of the two countries will reflect positive progress and shared vision in building a forward-looking partnership between India and Canada.” Will provide an opportunity to confirm.
