Nehru Statue Vandalized In Assam: A serious incident has come to light in Cachar district of Assam. Officials initially claimed that the statue fell on its own, but CCTV footage showed a group using a bulldozer to bring it down. The incident took place at Pailapool market under the jurisdiction of Lakhipur police station between Monday and Tuesday night, he said. Lakhipur police station in-charge Shankar Dayal said that no eyewitness has been found. But in the CCTV footage, some unknown miscreants are seen demolishing the statue with the help of JCB. He said that the police have started investigating the incident and have started searching for the accused.

Police also said that an FIR has been registered in the case of demolition of the statue of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Police have detained one person and seized the digging machine, but have not yet arrested the driver.

Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. He said such an act is not just about toppling a statue, but it is an insult to the legacy of a great leader and renowned freedom fighter who laid the foundation of modern India.

Gogoi said that even if political ideologies differ, any attempt to erase democratic history through such wrongdoings is not acceptable.
