Compensation in Railways now sitting at home, e-RCT portal launched, big announcement by Minister Ashwini Vaishnav
There is news of great relief for railway passengers. Now the hassle of visiting offices for compensation is about to end. Ashwini Vaishnaw has launched e-RCT i.e. Electronic Railway Claims Tribunal (e-RCT) portal in Indian Railways. With this digital step, claim related matters will now be settled in a faster, easier and transparent manner.
What is e-RCT portal and how will it work?
The e-RCT system launched by Indian Railways will work completely online. Now any passenger or person involved in freight transportation can file his claim sitting at home.
On this portal, the application will be scrutinized on the basis of checklist, necessary documents can be uploaded and there will also be automatic allotment of the case. A digital copy of the notice will be available and the facility of e-hearing will also be available, which will reduce the number of visits to the court.
Now everything is online from filing to decision
Earlier, the process of getting compensation used to be lengthy and complicated. It used to take months from application to hearing. But now with the entire system being online, complete information from filing to final decision will be available at one place.
Railways claims that this will reduce the pending cases and provide real convenience to the general public. Transparency will increase and trust will be strengthened.
In which cases will the benefit be available?
This portal will be useful in cases like railway accident, train accident, goods damage, parcel loss or fare dispute.
This means that if any passenger suffers any loss during the journey or the merchant’s goods get damaged, then now he will not have to wander from office to office. File a claim online sitting at home and get case updates on your mobile.
Minister’s strict warning on digital security
Along with the launch of e-RCT, Ashwini Vaishnaw also gave a big statement on internet and digital security. He said that social media and digital platforms will now have to understand the responsibility.
There will be no compromise on the online safety of children and digital privacy of citizens. It is wrong to create synthetic content using someone’s face, voice or identity without their permission. If platforms do not follow the rules, they will be held accountable.

In this era of Digital India, e-RCT portal can prove to be a great convenience for the common people. Less hassle, more transparency and direct benefits – this is the real specialty of this new initiative.
