T20 World Cup: South Africa beats West Indies by 9 wickets!

In the T20 World Cup 2026, South Africa defeated West Indies by 9 wickets in a one-sided match. South Africa achieved the target of 177 runs against West Indies in 16.1 overs by losing just one wicket in the match played at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Captain Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock gave a stormy start to the South African team, which came to chase the target of 177 runs given by West Indies. Both the openers together added 95 runs in just 48 balls for the first wicket. De Kock became the victim of Roston Chase after playing a strong innings of 47 runs in 24 balls.

However, after this Markram got another good partner in the form of Ryan Rickelton. Rickelton-Markram played an unbroken partnership of 82 runs in 49 balls for the second wicket. Markram remained unbeaten on 82 runs in 46 balls, while Rickelton scored 45 runs in 28 balls and returned to lead the team to victory. Markram hit 7 fours and 4 sixes in his explosive innings. Roston Chase took the only wicket for West Indies.

Earlier, West Indies scored 176 runs on the scoreboard after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. On behalf of the team, Romario Shepherd batted brilliantly and played an unbeaten inning of 52 runs in just 37 balls. Whereas, Jason Holder scored 49 runs in 31 balls. However, apart from Holder-Shepherd, other batsmen of the team were seen struggling for runs.

Captain Shai Hope was out after scoring 16 runs in 6 balls, while Brandon King contributed 21 runs. Shimron Hetmyer, who was continuously scoring runs in the tournament, was sent to the pavilion by Kagiso Rabada on the score of just 2 runs.

Rovman Powell also could not show anything special with the bat and could score only 9 runs. Roston Chase was out after scoring 2 runs, while Sherfane Rutherford became the victim of Corbin Bosch after scoring 12 runs. At one time West Indies looked to be in trouble after losing 7 wickets at the score of 83. However, Holder and Shepherd played an important partnership of 89 runs, due to which the Caribbean team was successful in reaching a respectable score.

In bowling for South Africa, Lungi Ngidi took 3 wickets while conceding only 30 runs in 4 overs. Whereas, Kagiso Rabada and Corbin Bosch took two wickets each. This is South Africa’s second consecutive win in the Super-8 round. Earlier the team had defeated India by 76 runs.

South Africa has reached first place in Super-8 Group One and the team’s net run rate has become +2.890. Team India has also benefited from South Africa’s big win. The Indian team will now have to win both its remaining matches to reach the semi-finals. After the crushing defeat of West Indies, the pressure of net run rate has been lifted from Surya’s army.
