Was The Kerala Story 2 shot in Kerala? Here’s the truth behind the film’s locations
New Delhi: The controversial film The Kerala Story 2, which travels through three states to highlight the theme of ‘love jihad’, tells the story of three young women who choose love over tradition, and the turbulent consequences that follow.
Beyond a few establishing visuals captured in Kerala to establish the setting, the film’s principal photography was conducted elsewhere.
The Kerala Story 2 shooting location
The makers, director Kamakhya Narayan Singh and producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah, revealed, “We shot the film in about four locations across the country. All indoor home sequences were recreated, constructed and filmed on studio floors in Mumbai.”
Actress Ulka Gupta, who plays a girl from Kerala, shot key scenes, including the controversial sequence where her character is allegedly forced to eat beef, entirely in Mumbai.
As one of the story arcs unfolds in Rajasthan, the production shifted to Jodhpur, where scenes were shot across the city’s blue-painted neighbourhoods and nearby heritage chhatris. In this segment, Aditi Bhatia plays a young woman obsessed with creating social media reels. Her marriage turns abusive as she faces domestic violence from her husband because of her online presence.
The production also travelled to Gwalior, where several scenes were filmed at the historic Gwalior Fort and in surrounding city areas.
Agra served as another filming base, with scenes captured in neighbourhoods around the Taj Mahal precinct. Segments featuring actress Aishwarya Ojha were filmed in these locations in the city.
