Jammu park murder: Viral dying declaration key in Gangyal stabbing case

Love, broken promises, and money appear to be the main reasons behind Jammu city’s cold-blooded murder in which a young man allegedly stabbed his middle-aged married lover to death after she refused to marry him by abandoning her family, including her children.

In a case that has sent shockwaves across Jammu city, the brutal Gangyal park stabbing has turned into one of the region’s most sensational murder cases — particularly after a purported dying declaration of the victim surfaced online.

Rafia Bano, wife of Arif Jamal and a resident of Gangyal, succumbed to her injuries at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC) Jammu — but not before allegedly making a statement that has since gone viral, giving the investigation a dramatic turn.

In a disturbing video now circulating on social media, a grievously injured Rafia Bano — barely clinging to life and suffering from multiple stab wounds — can be heard making serious allegations against her alleged attacker, Amarjeet Singh alias Kaka, a resident of Model Town, Gangyal. Her husband, Arif Jamal, claims he recorded the statement on his mobile phone while she was undergoing treatment in the hospital.

In what may have been her final moments, Rafia alleged that Amarjeet had fallen to his knees, pleading with folded hands, before suddenly attacking her with a knife.

“I told him I was willing to marry him. I pleaded with him not to harm my child or me,” a visibly distressed Rafia can be heard saying in the video.

She further alleged that the accused threatened that her child would not be spared and claimed that the police could do nothing to stop him. Even as she allegedly begged for her life and promised to return his money, the attack continued.

Six years, eleven lakh rupees, and a park ambush

According to investigators, Amarjeet Singh and Rafia Bano had been in a relationship for nearly six years — a relationship that allegedly deteriorated over financial disputes and unfulfilled promises of marriage.

Amarjeet, who drove a passenger vehicle registered in his father’s name, reportedly sold it to financially support Rafia. He later purchased an auto-rickshaw, which he also sold, allegedly handing over the proceeds to her. In total, he claims to have spent between ₹11 and ₹12 lakh on the relationship, believing that she would eventually marry him.

However, the marriage did not materialise.

When Amarjeet began demanding the return of his money, tensions reportedly escalated. He allegedly told police that Rafia threatened to implicate him in a false rape case if he continued to press for repayment — a claim that investigators are examining.

Blood in broad daylight

Around noon on Monday, the simmering dispute allegedly turned violent.

Rafia Bano and Amarjeet Singh met at Rajiv Gandhi Park in Gangyal — a meeting that, according to police, ended in tragedy. What reportedly began as a heated argument quickly escalated when Amarjeet allegedly pulled out a knife.

He is accused of stabbing her multiple times, targeting her neck and other parts of her body. Her screams alerted bystanders, who rushed to the scene. By the time help arrived, the accused had fled.

Rafia was rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, Gangyal, and later referred to GMC Jammu. Despite efforts by doctors, she succumbed to her injuries.

Accused attempts suicide

In a dramatic turn, Amarjeet Singh allegedly did not attempt to flee the city. Instead, he went to Satwari, where he reportedly stabbed himself.

Satwari Police shifted him to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, from where he was later referred to GMC Jammu for further treatment. From his hospital bed, the accused reportedly admitted to the six-year relationship and narrated his version of events to the police.

Police examine viral video

Jammu Police have confirmed that the viral video purportedly containing Rafia Bano’s dying declaration is being treated as a crucial piece of evidence in the investigation. Officials said they are examining all aspects of the case, including the financial transactions, the nature of the relationship, and the allegations made by both sides.

Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. The case remains under active investigation.
