Not just time pass, also a source of income, storm of AI apps, India becomes number-1 in downloading ChatGPT

ChatGPT Download Numbers: In recent times, Artificial Intelligence has changed the face of the mobile world. Now people are downloading AI assistants more than normal apps. According to Sensor Tower’s latest global mobile report, in 2025, AI apps have achieved record-breaking performance in all three aspects: downloads, in-app purchases and time spent.

ChatGPT becomes the biggest star

ChatGPT benefited the most from this AI wave. It was heavily downloaded on Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. According to the report, ChatGPT downloads increased by 148 percent in 2025. Not only this, in-app purchases increased by 254 percent and time spent on the app increased by 426 percent.

This clearly means that people are not only downloading the app, but are also spending money for premium features and using it for a long time. For this reason, ChatGPT became the second most downloaded app in the world last year.

Who are in the race?

Apps like Google Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, Meta AI and Microsoft Copilot are also growing rapidly in the AI category. These platforms have given users a new option to help in studies, content creation and office work.

Social media continues to shine

Although the craze for AI apps has increased, the dominance of social media still remains. Users worldwide spent approximately 2.5 trillion hours on social media apps last year. On average, every person was active on social media for about 90 minutes every day, which is 5 percent more than in 2024. In this case TikTok still leads in downloads, in-app purchases and time spent.

India tops in downloads, lags behind in spending

India ranks first in the world in downloading generative AI apps. India alone has 20 percent share in the total downloads globally. But when it comes to in-app purchases, Indian users are left behind. The participation of Indians in in-app purchases in 2025 will be only 1 percent.

This means that people in India are ahead in adopting AI apps, but are still avoiding spending on premium features. This trend may change in the coming times, because AI is no longer just a technology but is becoming an everyday necessity.
