The world’s largest democracy is gradually being pushed in such a direction where dissent is being termed as treason and asking questions as a conspiracy: Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi. Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has once again made a big attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He wrote on social media X, Today in India, under the rule of Compromised PM, peaceful protest has been made the biggest “crime”. The world’s largest democracy is gradually being pushed in a direction where dissent is considered treason and asking questions is considered a conspiracy.

He further wrote, Think – no matter what the issue is, if you raise your voice against the government in a constitutional manner, then lathi, case and jail – it is almost certain. Youth troubled by paper leak raised their voice for their future – got the answer with sticks. The proud women wrestlers of the country demanded an impartial investigation into the serious allegations against the influential BJP leader. Their call was discredited, the movement was crushed, and they were forced off the streets.
A peaceful demonstration took place at India Gate in support of a rape victim. The demand for justice was dropped as an “inconvenience” to the system. When the Youth Congress peacefully protested against the US trade deal which was harmful to the country, they were arrested calling them “anti-national”. When common people stood up against poisonous air, environmental concerns were also suppressed as “politics”. When farmers agitated for their rights, they were declared anti-national. Tear gas, rubber bullets, water cannons and sticks – these became the medium of communication.
Rahul Gandhi further wrote, when the tribals stood up for their rights to water, forests and land, they too were looked at with suspicion – as if demanding their rights was a crime. What kind of democracy is this, where the Compromised PM is afraid of questions? Where suppressing dissent is becoming the nature of governance? Peaceful protest is not a crime – it is the soul of democracy. Asking questions is not the weakness of democracy – it is its strength. Democracy is stronger when the government listens to criticism, responds and remains accountable. Modi ji, this is not North Korea, this is India. When power starts considering itself a nation and dissent as an enemy – then democracy dies.
