However, this service was not available in India due to the complex regulations and payment structure in the Indian market. Now after a long wait of 11 years, Apple has decided to launch this service considering the growing number of iPhone users in India.

Discussions started with major banks

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple has started the process of joining hands with leading banks in India for this service. These include banks like ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank. Apple Pay will work like Google Pay and Samsung Pay, giving iPhone users a secure and innovative digital payment experience.

Use of NFC technology and contactless payment

The biggest feature of Apple Pay is the NFC (Near Field Communication) technology used in it.

  • The service is connected to more than 11,000 banks and local payment networks worldwide.

Awaiting approval from NPCI for UPI service

According to reports, Apple Pay will be available only for card-based contactless payments in the initial phase. However, given the popularity of UPI payments in India, the company is likely to include UPI services in the future. For this, Apple has to take technical approval from NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) under the jurisdiction of Reserve Bank of India. If approved, iPhone users will be able to make UPI payments by scanning directly from Apple Pay.

When will it be launched?

According to reports citing industry sources, Apple may officially launch its ‘Apple Pay’ service in India by the end of this year. Due to this, the digital revolution in India is predicted to gain more speed.
