4 Upcoming Volkswagens In India: Virtus Facelift To Tayron

Volkswagen’s India portfolio now consists of the Taigun, Virtus, Tiguan R-Line, Golf GTi and Tayron R-Line. The Tayron R-Line, launched in February, is the latest addition to the lineup. The manufacturer isn’t stopping there. It has interesting plans for the future. In the coming months, Volkswagen (VW) will refresh the volume sellers in its current lineup and add new models to it. Here are four launches that are to be expected soon.

Standard Tayron (Non R-Line)- Second Quarter, 2026

We saw how the company priced the Tayron R-Line. The introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 46.99 lakh pumps much value and appeal into it. Volkswagen also has plans to launch the regular Tayron (non R-Line version) in India in the second quarter of 2026. It will be positioned below the Tayron R-Line and will be more affordable. This will also be a premium seven-seater SUV. It will, however, miss out on the R-Line spec body kit and design elements. Inside, it will be less loaded than the Tayron R Line.

We lack clarity on the actual powertrain specs. Speculations suggest the regular version to come with the same 204hp 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (EA888) as the R-Line Tayron. It will be mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox. Going by how VW has priced the Tayron R-Line, the regular version will have a sub-45 lakh ex-showroom price.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift- Second Quarter, 2026

taigun facelift

Another launch expected in the second quarter is the facelifted Taigun SUV. Test mules have already been spotted multiple times. The facelift will have notable styling updates and a revised feature list. The exterior will get revised bumpers, updated lighting signature, and new wheels. The feature list will see the addition of the likes of a panoramic sunroof. Overall, the equipment array will be brought in line with that of the facelifted Skoda Kushaq.

There will be no change in the engine options. It will continue to be powered by the 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engines, producing 113hp and 178Nm, and 148hp and 250Nm respectively. A notable mechanical change will be the replacement of the six-speed torque converter automatic transmission (on the 1.0L version) with the new 8-speed torque converter automatic. We saw this swap on the new Kushaq as well. The 8-speed box is claimed to improve drivability and efficiency.

Volkswagen Virtus Facelift- Third Quarter, 2026

The Virtus enjoys good acceptance in its segment. It is set to receive a facelift sometime in the third quarter of this year. Design revisions and feature additions are expected on the new sedan. The design of the front and rear ends are expected to evolve and the car will also get a new set of wheels. Features like a panoramic sunroof are also likely to be included.

The engine lineup will remain the same. Buyers will continue to get the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines- same as the Taigun. Transmission options will include manual, 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and the new 8-speed torque converter automatic.

Golf GTI Second Batch- End 2026

Volkswagen Golf GTI

Volkswagen saw strong demand for the Golf GTI in India despite its Rs 53 lakh price tag. The first batch got sold out quickly. The second batch is expected to arrive by the end of 2026. It will reportedly receive minor feature updates but will remain mechanically unchanged.

Under its hood will be the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in a state to produce 265hp, and mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The all-wheel-drive system will remain part of the package.

Volkswagen’s upcoming product offensive seems well-planned. Refreshing the Taigun and Virtus will drive more volumes, while the Tayron and more batches of Golf would help increase brand perception and aspirational value.
