The Kerala Story 2 not releasing today? 15 days stay order of court after advance booking
- The Kerala Story 2 not releasing today?
- 15 days stay order of court
- Advance booking of the film has been done
Film controversies and box office figures are always in the news. But the controversy over the film “The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond” has now moved from the ticket counter to the courtroom. The film was slated to release in theaters today, Friday, February 27, 2026. However, the Kerala High Court has imposed a 15-day interim stay on this spiritual sequel. Advance bookings for the film were already done, but the court order has put everything on hold.
Why was the moratorium of 15 days imposed?
The order was passed by the High Court while hearing the petitions filed against “The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond”. The petitioners argued that the subject of the film and its exhibition could create communal tension and disturb public peace. Taking these arguments seriously, the court has now stayed the release of the film for the next 15 days. This means that the film will not be released in any theaters during this period. This decision is a big blow for the makers of the film.
Advance booking of the film has already been done
Interestingly, the advance booking for the film started even before the legal troubles and it started its journey at the box office with a pre-sale of 5,000 tickets on Book My Show (BMS). Now, as the film has been put on hold, advance bookings can be canceled or refunds issued for tickets. This is likely to cause major damage to the film.

Why ‘The Kerala Story 2’ is creating controversy
The teaser of ‘The Kerala Story 2’ was released on 30th January. Since then, the film has been mired in controversy. The teaser depicts the story of three Hindu girls (Ulka Gupta, Aishwarya Ojha and Aditi Bhatia) whose lives are shaped by a love affair, which leads them to uncover a plot to convert to Islam. In the teaser, the girls, wearing hijabs, are seen expressing their pain and finally, “We will not take this anymore… we will fight.” Such an announcement is heard. The teaser begins with a bold claim. “In 25 years, India will become an Islamic state.” This dialogue has further increased the controversy of the film. Another scene in the teaser that has become a topic of discussion is the lead actress being force-fed beef by her in-laws. The teaser shows her husband holding her hands tightly, holding her nose and force-feeding her beef.
Petition filed against ‘The Kerala Story 2’
After the release of the teaser of the movie ‘The Kerala Story 2’, a biologist named Sridevi Namboodiri filed a petition in the Kerala High Court seeking a stay on the release and public exhibition of the film or directing the central government to consider the Exh P3 review petition within a time fixed by the court and stop the exhibition of the film till then. The petition argued that the film “contains malicious and clichéd statements defaming the entire state without any basis.”
It added, “The film seeks to isolate Kerala and its people from the rest of India. Moreover, the title deliberately attempts to portray the largely imaginary fears of the writer or director as real. While the petitioner is not against the freedom of the writer-filmmaker to express his fears, whether real or imagined, he or she cannot falsely project those fears on Kerala or the state as a whole.”
Kerala Chief Minister termed ‘The Kerala Story 2’ as propaganda
Kerala Chief Minister P. Vijayan has also expressed strong opposition to the film, calling it propaganda and a threat to secularism. Chief Minister Vijayan has taken to social media platforms to support the demand to boycott the film. He wrote, “The news about the release of the sequel to the hate-mongering film ‘The Kerala Story’ should be taken seriously. Fully understanding the casteist agenda and blatant falsehoods portrayed in the first part, Kerala has once again boycotted this attempt to tarnish secularism.”

What did the filmmakers say?
The makers of the film have argued that the film is not anti-state. Producer Vipul Amritlal Shah had earlier said, “We are not behind Kerala. Kerala is God’s own country… We want this evil to end from this state as soon as possible.” He added, “Some people criticized the first film and said that the figure of 32,000 was wrong. We made a video on YouTube about this figure, which is still available. We added names and showed the figures. The government may have more numbers than we do, but we have not heard of any drastic action since the film was released.”
