High Court’s stay order on The Kerala Story 2

Legal dispute over the film The Kerala Story 2

Mumbai: Hours before the release of the film ‘The Kerala Story 2’, it has to face a legal dispute. The Kerala High Court on Thursday issued a 15-day stay order on the release of the film. The court said that certain issues arise in the certification process and the film may affect communal harmony. Despite this, tickets for the film were available online in various cities across the country till Friday morning, leading to confusion among the audience.

Cinema Chain and Ticket Booking Status

Big cinema chains like PVR Cinemas and INOX Leisure Limited did not show the shows on their platforms. However, the shows were available for booking in several cities including Mumbai and Delhi on the online platform BookMyShow. Around 21 theaters in Mumbai sold tickets, while 14 theaters in Delhi had shows listed. Some local chains like M2K, G3S and MSX also screened the film on Friday.

confusion on social media

Damodar Cinema, a small chain, informed on social media that the film is on hold due to legal reasons and further updates are to be awaited. In contrast, M2K Cinema posted in the morning that the film had been released. This contradictory information raised questions among users on social media. Many people asked that if there is a ban then how are the tickets being sold. Some joked that perhaps the theater and the audience were watching different news.

Kerala High Court order

The High Court said in its order that prima facie it appears that necessary precautions were not taken in the certification. The court also said that there could be a possibility of controversy regarding any community in the film. Therefore it is advisable to hold off on the release until detailed investigation. The producers of the film have appealed against this postponement and the court has agreed to hear it, which is expected to make the decision clear soon.
