Tremors of a massive earthquake felt in Kolkata, tremors felt across the city, people came out of their homes.

The sudden earthquake that struck West Bengal’s capital Kolkata on Thursday afternoon shocked people. Felt at 1:22 pm. The intensity of this earthquake was recorded at 4.9 on the Richter scale. The tremors were so sudden and obvious that people present in homes, offices and public places came out in panic.

Tremors felt in many areas of Bangladesh

According to initial information, the impact of this earthquake was not limited to Kolkata only, but tremors were also felt in many areas of neighboring country Bangladesh. The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 26 kilometers south-west of Khulna city of Bangladesh. The intensity of the tremors was felt relatively higher in the areas located around the India-Bangladesh border. Due to this earthquake which occurred during the day, there was a sudden situation of fear and confusion among the people, because most of the people were present in their workplaces or homes at that time.

In many parts of Kolkata, people living and working in high-rise buildings immediately came out to open spaces below as soon as they felt the tremors. The objects hanging from the walls and ceiling in the houses started shaking, due to which people realized the seriousness of the situation. At that time, employees in many offices were preparing for lunch, but due to the tremors, work was disrupted and people started moving towards safe places.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Sukant Majumdar was present on the stage in a public program. Due to the sudden shock, there was an atmosphere of chaos at the venue for a few moments and everyone was stunned.

What did Congress leader Vinay Kumar say?

This is the third time within the last two months that earthquake tremors have been felt in Kolkata. Congress leader Vinay Kumar Dokania, while sharing a video on social media, said that the tremors were felt for about a minute. He said that during this period people came out of their homes and offices and an atmosphere of fear was created in the city. Although officially the intensity of the earthquake was measured at 4.9, but many people said that it felt relatively more powerful.

At present, no major damage or loss of life has been reported, but the earthquake has once again reminded people to be alert about natural disasters.
