Another contract worker died due to negligence, painful death due to electric shock

bureau report

Sonbhadra/Uttar Pradesh –

Due to gross negligence of the officers and employees of the electricity department in the district, the series of electrical accidents is not stopping. The latest case is from Ghorawal area, where a contract lineman died during treatment after getting electrocuted while on duty. This incident has once again raised serious questions on the functioning of the department and the safety of contract workers. According to the information received, contract lineman Santosh (son Chintamani), resident of Ghorawal, posted at Ghorawal sub station, was repairing a faulty transformer at around 6:00 pm on Thursday evening.

It is being told that during the repair work the power supply suddenly started. Due to the strong electric shock, Santosh got badly burnt and became unconscious on the spot. The fellow employees and local people present there hurriedly admitted him to the district hospital. Battling between life and death, Santosh died during treatment at around 1:00 am. This is not the first case of death of contract workers in Sonbhadra. There is a lot of anger among the local people and family members towards the department. This incident has raised many sharp questions.

When the lineman was working on the pole or transformer, who suddenly started the supply and why? Was the procedure for taking shutdown followed correctly? Why are contract workers being thrown into risky work without safety equipment? There are frequent reports of corruption and exploitation of contract workers in the electricity department. These low-paid workers not only take physical risks, but are also subjected to extreme mental pressure from officials and government employees.

Departmental officials often cover up such incidents. Sometimes the department even refuses to recognize its deceased employee so that compensation does not have to be paid. Santosh was the only earning member of his family. After his death, there is darkness in front of the family. The question is who will support that family now? Will the department, accepting its responsibility, provide proper compensation and justice to the victim’s family, or will this matter also remain buried in the files? The entire district is waiting for when the Kumbhakarni sleep of the officers sitting in AC rooms will be broken. Unless strict action is taken against the culprits, innocent contract workers will continue to die.
