Earthquake tremors in West Bengal including Kolkata, intensity 5.4 on Richter scale; people ran out of their homes
Kolkata. Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Kolkata and other cities of West Bengal on Friday afternoon (February 27). The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 5.4 on the Richter scale. As soon as the tremors were felt, people came out of their homes out of panic.

The European Mediterranean Seismic Center (EMSC) said the epicenter was in Agargaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and it occurred at a depth of 35 kilometers (21.75 miles), Reuters reported. Earthquake tremors were felt in West Bengal, causing chaos in many areas of Kolkata.
Experience of people in Kolkata-
Local residents said that the tremors came suddenly and things kept in the house started shaking. A citizen said, “We were sitting on our sofa, suddenly felt the tremors. The sofa and the fan were shaking, the bottle kept on the table fell. We all immediately ran out of the house.”
No harm at the moment-
People are sharing their experiences on social media. However, there is no news of any casualty or damage to property so far. The administration is also keeping an eye on the situation.
This earthquake occurred in Bangladesh, but its tremors were felt till neighboring West Bengal, creating a situation of fear and apprehension among the people.
