Will Virat Kohli’s 12 year old record be broken? A Pakistani is also behind

The batsmen have created havoc in the Super-8 round of ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Twice this week teams have scored 250 plus scores. West Indies scored 254 runs for the loss of 6 wickets against Zimbabwe on 23 February, which was the second highest score in the history of the tournament. Three days later, the Indian team scored 256 runs for the loss of 4 wickets against Zimbabwe in Chennai, breaking West Indies’ record. Whichever player of Team India got the batting, he thrashed the Zimbabwean bowlers.

Abhishek Sharma and Hardik Pandya played half-century innings for the Indian team. Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma also batted brilliantly. During this, Ishaan and Surya also completed their 200 runs in the tournament. So far Ishaan has scored 214 runs, while Surya has scored 213 runs. Now both these players have come close to breaking a big record of Virat Kohli.

Will Kohli’s record be broken?

Team India’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli holds the record of scoring the most runs in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Kohli had scored 319 runs in 2014. This record of his has remained untouched for 12 years but this time it seems to be broken. Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan is the closest to breaking his record. Farhan has scored 283 runs in this T20 World Cup. He needs 37 runs to overtake Kohli.

Pakistan is going to play at least one match in this tournament. In such a situation, it is interesting to see whether Farhan can achieve this feat or not. If he misses out, Aiden Markram is unlikely to miss out. South African captain Markram has scored 264 runs. Right now they have at least 2 matches. South Africa has made it to the semi-finals. Also, his last Super-8 match is still left. Markram will have to score 56 runs in these two matches to break Kohli’s record.
