Prime Minister Modi’s Tamil Nadu-Puducherry tour: Will gift development projects worth Rs 7100 crore on March 1, will address public meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a tour of South India on March 1, where he will gift development projects worth more than ₹7,100 crore to Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. The main focus of this visit is to strengthen infrastructure, civic amenities, education and health services. PM Modi will reach Chennai on the night of 28 February and will launch these important projects the next day.

His visit will be in two phases: first to Puducherry and then to Madurai. Along with launching development projects at both the places, he will also address a huge public meeting. The tour also includes a visit to the temple.

New chapter of development in Puducherry

In Puducherry, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth more than ₹2,700 crore at around 11:45 am. During this time, Karasur-Sedarapet Industrial Area spread over 750 acres will be dedicated to the nation. Along with Pharma Park, Textile Park, IT Park, a state-of-the-art Research and Development Center of IIT Madras will also be established in this campus.

In addition, a number of schemes will be launched to improve civic amenities, including:

  • PM E-Bus Service: Electric buses will start operating in the city.
  • Smart City Mission: Under this, Integrated Command and Control Center will be inaugurated.
  • Housing Scheme: Under the CITIIS scheme, houses built for economically weaker sections will be inaugurated.
  • Education and Health: Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Engineering Block at National Institute of Technology, Karaikal, modernization of the Regional Cancer Center at JIPMER and new buildings at Pondicherry University will also be inaugurated.

Madurai will get speed of infrastructure

After Puducherry, the Prime Minister will travel to Madurai, where he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate infrastructure projects worth over ₹4,400 crore at around 3:00 pm. The main focus here is to strengthen connectivity and railway network.

The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for four-laning of the Marakkanam-Puducherry section of NH-332A and the Paramakudi-Ramanathapuram section of NH-87. Apart from this, there will be many important announcements in the field of Railways. PM Modi will inaugurate 8 railway stations redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and will also dedicate to the nation the Chennai Beach-Chennai Egmore 4th Line.

Public meeting and temple darshan

Apart from launching development projects, PM Modi will address public meetings in both Puducherry and Madurai. At the end of his tour, at around 4:00 pm, he will also pay darshan and offer prayers at the famous Arulmigu Subramaniam Swamy temple at Tirupparankundram.
