About 2 months ago, Deva Gupta got relief from Patna High Court. The High Court had put on hold strict action against Deva Gupta and the reward of Rs 1 lakh announced on him till the completion of the hearing. After this order, the action of the police administration was stopped. Motihari Police had prepared a list of 100 criminals for crime control. This ‘hit list’ was sent to the DIG. The list included accused of liquor mafia, land mafia, murder and robbery. In this, Deva Gupta’s name was at the top. According to the police, a total of 28 criminal cases are registered against him. These cases include serious charges like murder, extortion and land grabbing. In two cases he was absconding for a long time. The police was continuously searching for him.
SP had asked to surrender in 10 days

On the basis of the cases registered against Deva, SP had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on him. He was directed to surrender before the court or police within 10 days. Even before the completion of the stipulated 10-day deadline, Deva Gupta approached the High Court. After this, Deva filed a petition, citing his already filed anticipatory bail application. The petition also mentioned all the cases registered against him and the current legal situation. During the hearing of the case, the High Court had said, Deva Gupta’s anticipatory bail petition is still under process. The court had directed that until the hearing on this bail application is completed, the police will not take any strict or punitive action against Deva Gupta in related cases.

In 2025, Deva stood against Gupta against BJP’s Pramod Kumar. Deva’s politics started with the mayor’s election. His wife had contested the mayoral election in 2022 and won the election. After that he claimed the ticket in the Lok Sabha elections, but did not get the ticket, after that he tried his hand in the Legislative Assembly for the first time.
