Anthony Edwards celebrates fan’s victory over cancer

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is proving he has a heart as big as his game.

Just hours after the NBA slapped him with a $25,000 fine for accidentally flinging a ball into the stands during a game against the Portland Trail Blazers, the All-Star guard shifted the spotlight to something far more important: a young fan’s life.

On February 26, 2026, the team shared a personalised video message from Edwards to 7-year-old Luka Wright, who has officially beaten leukemia. The two formed a special bond in January 2025 when Luka gifted Edwards an orange “Love Like Luka” wristband.

Edwards famously promised to wear the band for the “rest of my career,” a vow he has kept for over a year.

Edwards couldn’t hide his excitement over the news

In the emotional new video, Edwards couldn’t hide his excitement over the news that Luka is now cancer-free. Reacting to the update, Edwards said, “I was turned up. Slick told me earlier today before the game. So I was like yeah, let’s go.”

He grew reflective as he spoke directly to the young survivor, adding, “That’s God’s gift, man. So let’s do it, Luka.”

While the league fine made headlines for his “forceful” ball toss, fans are instead praising Edwards for his genuine connection with Luka, proving that some wins means much more than the final score.
