Rajya Sabha elections: From Babul Supriyo to Rajiv Kumar, whom did TMC field?
Trinamool Congress (TMC) has announced four candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections. Apart from Bengal government minister Babul Supriyo, former DGP Rajiv Kumar, Maneka Guruswamy and Koel Mallik have been made candidates. Babul Supriyo was once a part of BJP and was also a minister in the Modi government, but is now a minister in Mamata Banerjee’s government. Maneka Guruswamy is a Supreme Court advocate. Koel Mallik is a famous actress of Bengali cinema.

Who is Rajeev Kumar: Rajiv Kumar is a former DGP of West Bengal. In 2019, there was a dispute between CBI and police in Kolkata. At that time Rajiv Kumar was the Commissioner of Kolkata. The CBI team had reached his residence to interrogate him in the Saradha Chitfund and Rose Valley case. Later the Kolkata Police took the CBI team into custody. When the uproar escalated, Mamata Banerjee herself reached Rajiv Kumar’s residence. Had also staged a protest in his support. Rajiv Kumar, a former IPS officer of 1989 batch, is originally from Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh.
