The Kerala High Court on February 26 had directed the Central Board of Film Certification to revisit and reconsider the clearance of the film The Kerala Story 2 after claims that the film contains hate content. Kerala High Court had also imposed an interim stay of 15 days on the release of the film. Hearing a petition raising concerns about certain scenes in the film allegedly inciting hatred and threatening communal harmony, the court also examined the earlier decision of the CBFC. Considering the seriousness of the allegations, the bench ordered the board to re-examine the disputed parts of the film. The CBFC has been ordered to submit a report clarifying whether the content in question is an insult to any particular community. The film The Kerala Story-2 is the sequel to the National Award winning film The Kerala Story, released two years ago in 2023. The film is based on the lives of three young girls who, according to the film, fall into fraudulent marriages and allegedly face forced religious conversion. Ever since the trailer of the sequel was released, the film has been receiving strong reactions from all quarters with many social media users calling it propaganda. Whereas the makers of the film say that it is based on research done on real life incidents. Earlier reports had claimed that the teaser of the film was removed after the court’s intervention. However, the makers have denied these claims.
