Mp news: A historic moment will once again be seen in the Kuno National Park of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday morning. Eight new leopards are being brought here from Africa. With the arrival of this new team, India’s cheetah rehabilitation program will enter another important phase. According to officials associated with the project, this group includes six female and two male leopards. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav will release these leopards in specially prepared enclosures. Initially, they will be kept in quarantine for about a month and their health will be continuously monitored.
Will reach Gwalior by special Air Force flight
Director of Cheetah Project Uttam Sharma said that the special plane from Botswana will reach Gwalior between 9 to 10 pm on Friday night. After this, the cheetahs will be transported to Kuno by two helicopters of the Indian Air Force. The flight from Botswana to Gwalior will take about 9 to 10 hours, while the journey from Gwalior to Kuno will be completed in about an hour.
Mp news: Third party, numbers will increase
This is the third group of African leopards. Earlier, 8 leopards were brought to India from Namibia in September 2022 and 12 leopards from South Africa in February 2023. After the arrival of the new team, the total number of leopards in the country will increase to 46. At present 35 leopards are present in Kuno, while 3 leopards have been sent to Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary. The purpose of keeping cheetahs in different places is to keep the entire population safe from the threat of any possible disease.
Special preparations: enclosures and helipads
Mp news: Special isolation enclosures have been prepared in Kuno for the new leopards. Five helipads have also been built in the park for safe landing of helicopters. Like the previous phase, this time also the Indian Air Force is playing an important role in the entire process.
