75 thousand deposit mandatory for creation of organization of Congress, anger among Bihar leaders
The nationwide ‘Organization Creation’ campaign of the Congress Party is gaining momentum, in which the process of appointment of district heads is going on. But its norms in Bihar have created huge dissatisfaction among party leaders and workers. Sources say that this process is far away from the ground reality.
A person wishing to become the District President will first have to make at least 1500 Srijan Sathi, and will have to deposit a membership fee of Rs 50 from each. That means a total of Rs 75,000 will have to be deposited in the party fund. Whereas if there are many claimants, only one will become the president.
It is necessary to recruit Rs 10,000 from 200 members for the block president, 1500 members for the state vice president, and 1000 members for the post of general secretary. In a state like Bihar, where Congress has been away from power for decades, the defeat in the recent assembly elections has demoralized the workers.
Leaders say that it is not appropriate to impose financial burden in the name of strengthening the organization. National membership is just Rs 5, so why Rs 50 for Srijan Sathi? The high command has banned public criticism, but resentment is clearly visible in private conversations. This campaign may challenge the unity of the party.
