PAK vs SL: Forget the semi-finals… how will Pakistan be able to do what never happened?
Pakistan is holding its breath in ICC T20 World Cup 2026. England’s victory against New Zealand on Friday has brought a lifeline for Pakistan. England’s win saved Pakistan from being eliminated from the tournament. Now he has to register a big win in his last Super-8 match to reach the semi-finals. He has to face Sri Lanka on Saturday.
In this match to be played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan needs to win by at least 64 runs. If Pakistan team chases the target then it will have to finish the match in 13.1 overs. That means Pakistan should not just win but should win by a certain margin but the biggest question is whether the Pakistani team has ever been able to register such a big win in the T20 World Cup?

What is the record of Pakistan’s biggest victory?
Pakistan had registered its biggest win by margin of runs in the T20 World Cup in this edition. It had defeated Namibia by 102 runs in the group stage. Pakistan’s biggest win against Test playing countries is by 55 runs, which it achieved against Bangladesh in 2016. Whereas, Pakistan team’s biggest win in terms of balls remaining came 17 years ago. He defeated New Zealand in the 2009 T20 World Cup with 41 balls to spare.
If we look at it, Pakistan has never registered such a big win against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup. In such a situation, he will have to perform miraculously to get entry in the semi-finals, only then his point will be made. If the Pakistani team is unable to do this then New Zealand will qualify for the semi-finals, because its net run rate is better. England has already reached the last-4.

What will happen if it rains?
Two matches of this T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka have been washed out due to rain. Pakistan’s Super-8 match with New Zealand was washed out due to rain in Colombo. If the weather is not clear in Pallekele and the Pakistan-Sri Lanka match does not take place, then New Zealand will reach the semi-finals. However, it is a matter of relief for Pak fans that there is no possibility of rain in Pallekele on Saturday.
