IPL 2026: This is an exciting news for cricket lovers. The new start date of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) has now been revealed. This festival, which was earlier to be held on March 26, is now likely to start from March 28. Whereas the final match will be held on 31 May.
Although this change is minor, it is expected to give the franchises and other concerned parties a little more time to prepare for the new season. The new timing will be formally approved at next week’s IPL Governing Council meeting, which will also confirm the venue of the opening match and the final.
The dates of assembly elections have not been decided yet
Full timing and venue information will be released to fans after approval. The atmosphere will be set for high-profile T20 events during the next two months. According to sources, the reason for the delay in releasing the schedule of the upcoming season is that the dates of assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu are not yet decided.
Kolkata (West Bengal) and Chennai (Tamil Nadu) will have consecutive home matches of Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, while Assam’s capital Guwahati can become the second home venue of Rajasthan Royals.
Will Chinnaswamy Stadium host RCB’s first game?
Apart from the elections, stadium availability has become an important issue due to the ongoing T20 World Cup. Five of the 10 IPL venues, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Ahmedabad, are currently hosting World Cup matches. These venues will need time for handover and necessary preparations before the start of the IPL.
RCB will enter the new season as defending champion.
RCB will mark their presence in this new season as the defending champions, having won their maiden IPL title last season by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. RCB may also play in the first game of this season, but conditions regarding the venue are still unclear due to security measures currently underway at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
