New era of justice with 46 judges in Patna High Court..
Patna High Court will now function with 46 judges for the first time in judicial history. This important change became possible after it was approved in the meeting held by the Supreme Court Collegium.
Patna: An unprecedented moment has arrived in the judicial history of Patna High Court. For the first time the court will function with 46 judges. The Supreme Court Collegium recently approved the appointment of nine senior advocates as judges, taking the total working strength of the court to its highest ever level. After the issuance of the notification by the Central Government, the total number of serving judges in the High Court will become 46.
There are a total of 53 sanctioned judge posts in Patna High Court. This means that the court will now function with 87 percent capacity. This will be the largest working force in the history of the court and will expedite the judicial process.
List of new judges
The nine advocates who have been approved for appointment as judges by the Supreme Court Collegium include:
- Mo. Nadeem Siraj
- Ranjan Kumar Jha
- Kumar Manish
- Sanjeev Kumar
- Girijish Kumar
- Alok Kumar
- Prince
- Rana Vikram Singh
- Vikas Kumar
These appointments have been made in such a large number for the first time in the history of the court, which is being considered as a historic and unprecedented moment for the institution.
Retirement and judicial continuity
Three senior judges are scheduled to retire in 2026:
- Chief Justice Sangam Kumar Sahu – 4 June 2026
- Judge Navneet Kumar Pandey – 28 February 2026
- Judge Bibek Chaudhary – 31 October 2026
With these appointments, there will be judicial continuity in the court and there will be no adverse impact on the functions despite retirement. With this, pending cases will be heard on time and the judicial process will become more effective.
