Manchester United could pay up to Rs. 462.5 crore for hiring and firing Ruben Amorim: Report

Premier League giant Manchester United could shell out a total of £37 million (approximately Rs. 457 Crore) in bringing in Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim and sacking him earlier this season, according to BBC.

The 41-year-old was brought in from Sporting CP in November 2024 to replace Erik ten Hag, with United paying the Portuguese club £11 million, while it handed out £10.4 million as compensation to the departing Ten Hag.

Subsequently, when Amorim was let go in January this year, the club had to pay out a reported fee of £15.9 million. Amorim had a below-par 14-month tenure as United manager, where he had only a 38.1 per cent win rate, with 24 wins, 18 draws, and 21 losses in 63 games.

On Wednesday, United said that it turned a ​profit in the second quarter as its cost-cutting measures began ‌to bear fruit, though lower sponsorship revenue ​and ticket sales after missing out on ⁠European competitions reined in earnings.

United reported a net profit of £4.2 million for the ⁠quarter ended December 31, compared with a loss of 27.7 ⁠million pounds a year earlier.

The club maintained its annual revenue forecast of between £640 million and £660 million, and profit of £180 million to £200 million.
