Court acquitted Kejriwal-Sisodia, AAP said liquor scam was a political conspiracy
In the alleged excise policy case, which has been in discussion in Delhi politics for a long time, the court has given a big decision and has acquitted former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia of charges. With this decision, Aam Aadmi Party termed it as “victory of truth” and termed the entire episode as a political conspiracy.
What was the matter?
The investigating agencies had made allegations of alleged irregularities and providing financial benefits regarding the new excise policy for the year 2021-22. The allegation was that by changing the policy, some private players were benefited and financial benefits were taken in return. On this basis, many raids and interrogations were conducted.
However, after considering the available evidence and arguments, the court said that sufficient basis was not found to prove the allegations, due to which both the leaders were given relief.
court comment
During the hearing, the court made it clear that the documents and witnesses presented by the prosecution are not able to conclusively prove the allegations. The court said that no one can be accused merely on the basis of conjecture or political rhetoric.
With this order, the ongoing proceedings against Kejriwal and Sisodia have come to an end. However, the investigating agencies can continue further legal process on other aspects related to the case.
AAP’s reaction
Aam Aadmi Party held a press conference immediately after the verdict and called it a ‘victory of justice’. Party leaders said that this matter was baseless from the very beginning and an attempt was being made to put pressure on the opposition parties. Everyone knows how for the last four years, an allegation called liquor scam was made against us by using ED, CBI and all the institutions. Arvind Kejriwal said that truth can be troubled, but not defeated. Manish Sisodia said that he had full faith in the judiciary and now the truth has come out.
600 pages order
AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal said that in the nearly 600-page order, the court, keeping in mind all the evidence and all the witnesses, has said that there is not enough evidence and statements of witnesses in the case to even prosecute it.
Let us tell you that regarding this decision, the opposition parties say that they respect the court order, but the public should get answers to the questions raised regarding the policy making process.
