GAIL Maharashtra Wind Power Project: India’s leading natural gas company GAIL (India) Ltd has taken a big leap in the field of renewable energy. The company has given the green signal for a huge investment of Rs 1,736.25 crore to set up a mega wind power project in Maharashtra.
Steps towards net zero goal
This step of GAIL is not just business expansion, but part of its commitment towards the environment. The company has committed to achieving ‘net zero’ by the year 2035. The target has been set. According to the information given to the stock market, this investment proposal got official approval in the meeting of the Board of Directors held on Friday.
Project scope and time frame
The capacity of this new project to be set up in Maharashtra will be 178.2 MW. GAIL said that this project will be completed within just 24 months of getting the contract. GAIL currently has a wind power portfolio of 117.95 MW, which will more than double after the completion of this new project.
GAIL’s growing green portfolio
GAIL is not only a leader in gas pipelines but is also strengthening its hold in solar and wind energy.
Existing Wind Power: GAIL currently has wind power plants in Gujarat (19.2 MW), Karnataka (38.1 MW) and Tamil Nadu (60.65 MW).
Solar Energy: The company already has 27 MW of solar projects in operation in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
