12000 crore new road!! The traffic jam on the Mumbai-Pune highway will break
Mumbai Pune Expressway: The increasing traffic congestion on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway has now become a headache for everyone. Whether it’s a weekend, a festive season or an accident, long queues of vehicles on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway have become a common sight. In addition, the administration has really woken up as the traffic was stopped for almost 32 hours due to the tanker overturning on this highway last month. Against this backdrop, the Uran-Karjat-Shirur highway proposal, pending in the ministry for many years, came under discussion again and has finally gained momentum. The state government has decided to build this highway on ‘build-operate-transfer’ (BOT) basis, and the cost is expected to be around Rs. 12 thousand crores.
In fact, a report on this route was prepared a few years ago. The administration had made it clear that an alternate highway was essential to ease the strain on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. But this proposal remained in the dust in the ministry itself. Meanwhile, former minister Jayant Patil and other MLAs repeatedly raised the issue and drew the attention of the government. Common citizens, industrialists and transport professionals were suffering due to increasing traffic jams. Finally, the government gave the green light to this highway. The government gave important information about this project and informed that we are going to build this highway on BOT basis. 12 thousand crore rupees are likely to be spent on the Uran-Karjat-Shirur highway.
