“Even if Pakistan reach the semis, India won’t”: Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir has continued to stir discussion during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 with his blunt opinions, particularly about India’s performance in the tournament. The former Pakistan fast bowler has once again expressed doubt over India’s chances, stating that he does not expect them to reach the semi-finals.

In his recent remarks, Amir also spoke about Indian batter Abhishek Sharma, suggesting that the youngster relies mainly on aggressive strokeplay and lacks the ability to adapt his game when required. He implied that Sharma does not have the defensive range needed to handle tougher phases. These comments quickly sparked debate among Indian supporters and cricket analysts.

When pressed again about his semi-final predictions, Amir remained firm in his stance. He claimed that even if Pakistan fail to make it to the last four, India will also fall short of qualification.

“”Pakistan will qualify. Dekho, Pakistan kare na kare, India naaaa (Whether Pakistan make it through or not is irrelevant, India won’t qualify either),” Amir said on Haarna Mana Hai, a remark that even caught the show’s host off guard.

England and South Africa have already sealed their semi-final spots. England topped Group 2 and are set to face either India or the West Indies at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. South Africa, the only unbeaten team in the competition so far, will meet either New Zealand or Pakistan in a semi-final scheduled to be played in Kolkata or Colombo.

Before the start of the Super 8 stage, Amir had predicted that India would miss out on the semi-finals, arguing that South Africa and the West Indies were in better form. Following India’s heavy 76-run defeat to South Africa, his comments gained renewed attention, with a Pakistani television host even humorously referring to him as an astrologer.

However, India responded strongly in their next outing, securing a 72-run win over Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
