History created after 66 years! Jammu and Kashmir becomes champion of Ranji Trophy 2025-26

The wait of 66 years is finally over. Jammu and Kashmir cricket team won the title for the first time by defeating Karnataka cricket team in the final of Ranji Trophy 2025-26. The dominance of Jammu and Kashmir was clearly visible in this match played in Hubli. The match was definitely a draw, but they were declared winners on the basis of first innings lead.

Huge score in the first innings, pressure on Karnataka

In the final, Jammu and Kashmir batted first and scored a huge score of 584 runs. Shubham Pundir played a brilliant inning of 121 runs. Yawar Hasan (88), captain Paras Dogra (70), Abul Samad (61), Kanhaiya Wadhawan (70) and Sahil Lotra (72) also made important contributions. In reply, Karnataka team appeared under pressure and was reduced to 293 runs. Captain Mayank Agarwal played a fighting inning of 160 runs, but he did not get enough support from the other end. Jammu and Kashmir’s hold became stronger after getting a big lead in the first innings.

Draw match, but title goes to Jammu and Kashmir

According to the final rules of Ranji Trophy, if the match remains a draw, then the team gaining lead in the first innings is declared the winner. Jammu and Kashmir declared the innings after scoring 342 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in the second innings. Ultimately the match was a draw, but Jammu and Kashmir became champions on the basis of first innings lead.

Aaqib Nabi became the star of the tournament

Fast bowler Aaqib Nabi made a special mark with his excellent bowling throughout the tournament. He took 60 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 12.56 and became the highest wicket-taker. He took five wicket hauls seven times and played a decisive role in the team’s victory. He was also given the title of Player of the Series for his excellent performance. This victory has proved to be a milestone in the history of Jammu and Kashmir cricket and will be an inspiration for the coming generations.
