Maulana Shahabuddin Rizvi Barelvi, founder of the Islamic Research Center and author of Islamic history, has expressed objection to the selection of lesbian activist Maneka Guruswamy for Rajya Sabha appointment by the Trinamool Congress. Maulana said that sending a homosexual person to Rajya Sabha is against Islam and has appealed to TMC not to promote it.
Maulana Sahabuddin Rizvi said, “West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave Rajya Sabha ticket to Maneka Guruswamy, a woman from the LGBT community and now she is going to become a Rajya Sabha MP from TMC. The special thing is that she promotes homosexuality.” While talking about Hamjins i.e. homosexuality, Maulana Shahabuddin’s attitude remained unhappy. He said, “He is gay. It is being said that he also has a girlfriend.”
Describing homosexuality as wrong from the point of view of Islam, Maulana Shahabuddin said, “This homosexuality is illegitimate from the point of view of Islam, and promoting it is also completely wrong.” Also, Maulana, citing Islam and Indian culture, condemned this decision of TMC party as wrong. He said, “Islam and Indian culture, both have the same viewpoint in this matter. Indian culture also considers homosexuality as wrong. And Islam also considers homosexuality as wrong. If this is encouraged in the society, if such people reach the Rajya Sabha, then they will have the same rights. This will then disintegrate the fabric of the society.”
