Rumor became a disaster, mob beat up a mad woman, how did the police save her?

Sanjay Singh, Patna. Due to rumor in Sheikhpura district of Bihar, the life of an innocent mad woman was in danger. The incident took place on Friday in Dhanaul village of Ariyari police station area here. Here, on suspicion of child theft, a mob of villagers surrounded the woman and beat her up. Even before the situation could worsen, the police of Ariyari police station reached the spot and averted any untoward incident.

Regarding the incident, it is said that a woman was seen wandering on the roadside near Dhanaul village. Due to her mental condition not being normal, she was behaving abnormally. Meanwhile, some people passing by expressed the suspicion of child theft. Within no time this fear turned into a rumor and within a few minutes a large number of villagers gathered at the spot.

Police arrived on time, otherwise anything could have happened

The mob caught hold of the woman and started pushing and assaulting her in the name of interrogating her. On receiving information from the local people, the police of Ariyari police station immediately became active. Police Station Head Akhilesh Singh reached the spot with his team. As soon as the police were seen, there was chaos in the crowd. The police immediately intervened and took the woman out of the crowd safely and took her under her protection.

 

Ariari police station incharge Akhilesh Singh said that the police station had received information that a woman was held by the mob on suspicion of child theft. As soon as the information was received, the police team reached the spot and took the woman into safe custody. Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman is mentally unwell and is not involved in any kind of criminal activity.

 

He said that the woman was moving here and there on the road, seeing which some people spread the rumor that she was a child lifter without verification. The rumor spread so fast that a large number of people gathered within no time. The police arrived on time and took the situation under control, otherwise the matter could have taken a serious turn.

Don’t take law into your hands: Police

Appealing to the general public, the police station chief said that they should not take the law into their own hands by believing any rumour. Sensitivity towards incidents like child theft is natural, but assaulting a person without verification is a punishable offence. If you get information about any suspicious person, immediately inform the police.

 

The police brought the woman to the police station and have started the process of gathering information about her identity and family members. Besides, initiatives are also being taken to make people aware in the area, so that in future such rumors do not cost the lives of any innocent people.
