Pakistan lost even after winning! Sri Lanka’s defeat and neighbors’ game over, New Zealand gets semi-final ticket
Pakistan and Sri Lanka came face to face in the last match of Super 8 Group 2 of T20 World Cup 2026. The future of both teams depended on this match. Pakistan’s fate was directly in their hands, but New Zealand’s progress to the semi-finals depended on Sri Lanka’s performance. After losing the toss, Pakistan came to bat first and scored 212 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. The openers and middle order played brilliant innings and gave the team a strong score.
In reply, Sri Lanka scored only 207 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. This performance helped them seal the 65-run victory required to send Pakistan to the semi-finals. Pawan Rathnayake and Dasun Shanaka together maintained balance in the innings and contributed significantly in stopping the runs. This small victory of Sri Lanka became an advantage for New Zealand and they got a chance to secure a place in the semi-finals.
Pakistan out of T20 WC 2026 even after winning
Pakistan won this match, but due to net run rate they could not get the ticket for the semi-finals. England were already on top of Group 2, and New Zealand qualified as the second team with the help of Sri Lanka. Pakistan team needed a win bigger than 65 runs, so that they could enter the semi-finals on the basis of run rate, but this was not possible. Thus, despite the victory, Pakistan team was out of the tournament.
New Zealand reached the semi-finals
With this result, New Zealand became the second team from Group 2 to reach the semi-finals. At the same time, Sri Lanka remained at the bottom without points. It was disappointing for Pakistan to lose and be eliminated due to run rate, while New Zealand’s luck got them a direct place. This Super 8 match was exciting for the spectators, but proved to be a very disappointing result for the fans of Pakistan.
