“Everyone Trucks Mein Daala Jaata Tha!”: Ranbir Kapoor on Raj Kapoor’s Epic Holi Bash

Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor recently shared some vivid childhood memories of the grand Holi celebrations once hosted by his legendary grandfather Raj Kapoor, describing them as equal parts festive and frightening.

Ranbir “Scary” Childhood Experience

Speaking about the celebrations at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Ranbir said that as a young child he found the atmosphere overwhelming. The massive scale of the party with people covered head-to-toe in vibrant colours made it feel intimidating rather than joyful to him.

“I was really young, so I found the environment very scary,” he recalled. He added that guests drenched each other so completely in colour that he could hardly recognise anyone, and he said that people even threw everybody into trucks.

A Festival That United Bollywood

Despite fearing them as a child, Ranbir acknowledged that these Holi gatherings were legendary for another reason: they didn’t just include big stars. Actors, directors, technicians, crew members and production staff all came together to celebrate, making it a rare moment of unity within the industry.

Why the Celebrations Stopped

Though hugely popular, the annual Holi party eventually faded away. According to those present at the interview, the celebrations became too crowded and difficult to manage over time. As word spread, uninvited guests began to join, leading to safety and organisation challenges that made continuing the tradition impossible.

What’s Next for Ranbir

Alongside these nostalgic memories, Ranbir also hinted at an exciting slate of upcoming films. He’s set to feature in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War opposite Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, as well as the epic Ramayana with Sai Pallavi in a major role — releases fans are eagerly awaiting.
