Aadhaar Update New Rules 2026: Big news for Aadhaar card holders! UIDAI issued new rules, now this work is mandatory for 10 year old cards
New Delhi. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made major changes in the rules related to Aadhaar card for the year 2026. Now Aadhaar is not just an identity card but has become the strongest shield of your digital security. According to the new guidelines, data verification has been made mandatory for citizens whose Aadhaar cards were made 10 years ago and were never updated. If you do not update on time, your important facilities like banking services, government subsidies and pension may stop. 10 Year Rule: Why is Demographic Update Important? Under the new policy of UIDAI, it is necessary to update Aadhaar once every 10 years to maintain the accuracy of the data. If in the meanwhile your address has changed, mobile number is not updated or there is any error in name/date of birth, correct it immediately. The main objective of the Rules of 2026 is to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach only the genuine beneficiaries and to prevent any kind of identity theft. Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) for Children. In the style of Amar Ujala, we want to specially inform the parents that it is mandatory by law to update the biometric of children’s Aadhaar at the age of 5 years and 15 years. Fingerprints and facial features of children change with age, hence if the photo and iris scan is not updated at this age, the child’s Aadhaar card can be ‘suspended’. Online vs Offline: Where and what will be updated? UIDAI has divided the update process into two parts for the convenience of citizens: Online (at home): You can change general information like name, address, gender and date of birth through UIDAI’s ‘myAadhaar’ portal or app. For this, it is mandatory to receive OTP on the registered mobile number. Offline (Aadhaar Centre): To link the mobile number, get a new photograph taken, update the fingerprint or iris (Iris), you will have to go to the nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Centre. Cost of Update: Know how much the fee will be. The government has set a transparent fee for update services, so that no one can extort more from you: Online Document Update: ₹ 50 (This fee is free under promotional offers from time to time. Offline Demographic Update: ₹50 (at Aadhaar Centre). Biometric Update: ₹100 (for photo and fingerprint). Compulsory Biometric (for children): It is completely free. How to update online? (Step-by-Step)Visit the official website myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. ‘Login’ using Aadhaar number and OTP. Select ‘Document Update’ option and upload the scanned copy of your Identity Card (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA). Keep the URN (Update Request Number) received after the application safe, so that you can check the status. Caution: Avoid fake websites and frauds these days. Many fake websites are active in the name. Always keep in mind that the official website of UIDAI ends with .gov.in. Do not give your Aadhaar OTP or secret information to anyone on call.
