‘King remains a king’: Rajpal Yadav breaks silence after jail term, vows to repay Rs 9 crore and plans big comeback
New Delhi: Bollywood’s beloved comic star is facing one of the toughest chapters of his life — but he isn’t backing down. After spending 13 days behind bars in a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case, actor Rajpal Yadav is out on bail and already back in front of the camera.
With a crucial court hearing scheduled for March 18, the actor addressed the media in an emotional yet defiant press conference, promising repayment and calling for reforms within the film industry.

Known for his impeccable comic timing, Rajpal turned serious as he spoke about the legal battle stemming from a loan he took in 2010 for his film Ata Pata Laapata. The actor had reportedly borrowed Rs 5 crore from a businessman for the project. With accumulated interest, the amount has now mounted to Rs 9 crore, leading to legal proceedings and his recent imprisonment over a cheque bounce case.
Addressing the media after his release, Rajpal said with folded hands, “I will repay every penny. I just need some time.” He expressed gratitude toward those who supported him during his incarceration. “Whoever has helped me, please send your account details. Your money will be returned with gratitude. The love and support I have received — that debt I may never be able to repay in my lifetime,” he added emotionally.
Despite the setback, Rajpal asserted that he is prepared for a strong comeback. “Everyone has plans. I also have a roadmap from 2025 to 2035. I am the golden man of TV, and I am eager to return to work,” he said confidently, signalling that he is not ready to slow down.
The actor also made a pointed appeal to the film fraternity and industry bodies, urging the introduction of a standardised agreement format for film contracts to prevent artists from facing similar legal complications. Defending the industry, he remarked, “If a film is a hit, everything is fine. But if it flops, Bollywood becomes the villain. I will not let anyone abuse Bollywood.”
In his trademark style, Rajpal concluded with a bold declaration: “Rajpal Yadav is a king. Whether in the jungle or in jail, a king remains a king.” With the March 18 hearing approaching, all eyes are now on the court’s decision — and on whether the “Chhota Don” star can turn this crisis into a comeback story.
