After months of border clashes, Pakistan carried out airstrikes in several cities of Afghanistan, including Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia, after which both the countries have said that an ‘open war’ like situation will arise against each other. Meanwhile, America has violated Pakistan’s ‘right to self-defense’ (Right to defend oneself) has endorsed.

What has happened so far in the Pak-Afghan conflict? (Understand in 10 points)
- Pakistan says that its army, with the help of artillery and air force, targeted many military bases and alleged terrorist bases inside Afghanistan. In this action, about 300 fighters of the Afghan Taliban and its allied groups have been claimed killed and hundreds injured.
- According to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, under ‘Operation Gazab-Lil-Haq’, 89 posts were destroyed, while 18 were captured. Along with this, about 135 tanks and armored vehicles were destroyed.
- Pakistan also alleged that the Taliban government is promoting cross-border terrorism and supporting attacks on Pakistani territory. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the Pakistani government has imposed a temporary ban on drone operations in the entire country.
- The Afghan side termed the Pakistani attacks as ‘aggressive action’ and retaliated. Taliban officials claimed that a Pakistani fighter plane had been shot down in Jalalabad. Its pilot has been captured alive, although Pakistan has called this completely false.
- There were also reports of loud explosions in Jalalabad, where people reported seeing fighter planes in the sky and hearing explosions near the airport.
- The rapidly increasing conflict has worried the world’s major powers. The European Union has appealed to immediately reduce tensions and stop the attacks. Russia called it a dangerous military confrontation and asked for a solution through talks.
- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed deep concern over the violence and demanded an immediate ceasefire. Iran has offered to mediate between the two countries.
- Amidst the tension, the Afghan Taliban government has said that it is ready to resolve the dispute through talks. The Taliban spokesman reiterated that they want a peaceful solution, although attacks and retaliation on the ground continue.
- Experts believe that if a diplomatic solution is not found soon, this conflict can destabilize the entire region. Both countries have huge military capabilities and continuous attacks on the border can take the form of a widespread war.
- US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he has strong relations with Pakistan. He praised Pakistan amid the increasing conflict with Afghanistan. When asked if he would intervene, Trump told reporters, “I would (intervene), but I get along very well with Pakistan. They have a very good prime minister and a very good general. These are two people I really respect. Pakistan is doing very well.”
Overall, the Pakistan-Afghanistan tension is no longer just a border dispute, but is emerging as a potentially major regional crisis in the eyes of international powers.
