Schalke stay top as two points separate top five
Schalke are still at the top of the 2. Bundesliga, despite a draw away at relegation-battling Greuther Fürth.
Schalke stay at 2. Bundesliga summit after their 1-1 draw against Greuther Fürth on Saturday. Paderborn were one of the big winners on matchday 24 as they climbed to second place after both Darmstadt and Elversberg dropped points. Hannover also closed the gap with the league leaders to only two points.
Dejan Ljubicic rescued Schalke in Fürth as the January signing has now scored in back-to-back games. Dennis Srbeny did the same for the hosts, although Heiko Vogel’s side remained stuck at the other end of the table following the goal they conceded fifteen minutes from time.
Preußen Münster and Magdeburg are level on points with Fürth, but they will both be in action on Sunday. Holstein Kiel are another team in danger of relegation, which resulted in their decision to replace long-time coach Marcel Rapp with Tim Walter during the week.
The experienced coach started his reign with a 1-1 draw at home against promotion chasers Elversberg. Both goals came after the break as Jonas Therkelsen canceled David Mokwa’s opener. The Hoffenheim loanee is in good form after joining Elversberg to replace Younes Ebnoutalib.
Paderborn used this opportunity to climb to second with their third win in four matches. Ralf Kettemann’s troops earned their latest hard-fought victory against out-of-form Kaiserslautern. They scored in injury-time of both halves before Kenny Redondo’s consolation strike for the hosts in the 98th-minute. Calvin Brackelmann and Filip Bilbija got the goals that put Paderborn only a single point behind Schalke.
Hannover also rejoined the title race as the fifth-placed team are only two points off the Royal Blues. Enzo Leopold’s strike from a penalty-kick was enough to hand Christian Titz’s side three points away at Arminia Bielefeld. Since losing to Kaiserslautern in the first game of 2026, Hannover collected 16 points from six games.
