Delhi: In the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan team missed a place in the last four despite coming very close to the semi-finals. In the match played against Sri Lanka in the Super-8 stage, it needed to win by a big margin, but despite the win, its campaign ended due to not being able to achieve the required net run rate.

Pakistan’s strong batting in the decisive match

Batting first, Pakistan scored a huge score of 212 runs. Opener Sahibzada Farhan scored a brilliant century and played a memorable inning of 100 runs and made the record of becoming the first batsman to score two centuries in T20 World Cup history. Along with him, Fakhar Zaman took the team to a strong position by playing an excellent inning of 85 runs.

Shanaka’s stormy innings

While chasing the target, Sri Lanka did not give up and continued the fight till the end. Captain Dasun Shanaka batted aggressively and scored 76 runs in 31 balls. A flurry of fours and sixes in his innings made the match exciting and the match reached the last over, although Sri Lanka remained five runs away from victory.

Semi-final dream broken even after victory

Pakistan was successful in winning the match, but could not achieve the required run difference to enter the semi-finals. Due to lack of better net run rate, the team was out of the tournament, due to which the players and fans were disappointed.

Captain Salman Aga told the reason for the defeat

After the match, captain Salman Aga admitted that the team’s batting was not at the expected level throughout the tournament. He said that the role of toss and dew also affected the match conditions, making it difficult to bowl later. Describing the weakness of the middle order as a big problem, he said that if Farhan had got better support from the other end and the run pace was maintained in the last overs, the result could have been different.
