Jetour T2 Is JSW’s First Plug-In Hybrid Car For India: Closer Look On Video

JSW recently made an announcement about its entry into the Indian market as an independent car brand. As part of its plan, JSW intends to launch a plug-in hybrid SUV in our market that is actually based on the Jetour T2, which is a plug-in hybrid SUV from Chinese car manufacturer Chery. While we are yet to see a test mule of the Jetour T2 in India, we already have plenty of information available online. Here we have a video that gives us a closer look at the upcoming plug-in hybrid SUV from JSW.

The video has been shared by Autoindustrya on their YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger talks about the exterior, interior, and even takes the SUV for a quick spin. Starting with the exterior, the T2 continues to offer a rugged-looking design.

The boxiness of the SUV actually gives it character. Like most Chinese car models, this SUV has taken inspiration from other international models. It looks like the Defender from some angles, but in a smaller form. The SUV gets a large grille at the front with Jetour branding on it. The headlamps are smoked and integrated in such a way that they look like part of the grille.

The bumper gets a muscular, rugged design, and we also see fake tow hooks on the bumper finished in a neon green shade. There is thick cladding around the squared wheel arches, and we also see reflectors, a 360-degree camera, LED tail lamps, and so on. The rear door has fake external hinges, and the tailgate is actually soft-close.

We also see a tailgate-mounted spare wheel in a squarish cover, along with rugged-looking bumpers and reflectors. On the inside, the Jetour T2 comes with a premium-looking cabin featuring leatherette upholstery, seat ventilation, and more. There is a chunky-looking steering wheel, and behind that, there is a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster that displays all the necessary information.

Then we have a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Like most Chinese cars, the controls for the infotainment system, AC, panoramic sunroof, and ORVMs are all operated through the screen, and we don’t see physical buttons for the same.

However, there are a couple of buttons and rotary knobs on the centre console. We also see a wireless phone charger, Level 2 ADAS, terrain/drive modes, and so on.

The Jetour T2 seen here is the plug-in hybrid version, which means it is powered by a petrol engine and an electric motor. They can work independently, offering flexibility and better range. The vlogger claims that the Jetour T2 can travel over 1,000 km without a stop. It uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 3-speed hybrid transmission. This setup generates 600 PS and 910 Nm of peak torque. In some models, the same setup generates 380 PS and 610 Nm of torque. We assume that we would be getting the 380 PS version in India.

There is a 26.7 kWh battery pack that can give you a range of 100 km or more. Even when the car runs out of charge, it will seamlessly shift to the petrol engine, and the customer won’t be stranded. This flexibility is what would make the Jetour T2 a great buy for customers in India, where EV infrastructure is still developing.
