Iran has appointed Ahmed Vahidi as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Who is Ahmed Wahidi?
Ahmed Vahidi has been active in Iran’s military and security system for a long time. He was born on 27 June 1958 in Shiraz, Iran. Talking about education, he is a graduate in Electronics Engineering, has a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and has also done a PhD in Strategic Studies.
In Iran he is considered the mastermind of military strategy. His name is taken among those officers who played an important role in shaping the defense policy of the country.
First commander of Quds Force
Ahmed Wahidi was the first commander of the Quds Force from 1988 to 1998. The Quds Force is the branch of the IRGC that conducts military and intelligence operations outside Iran. It is considered an important part of Iran’s foreign military strategy.
The work of Quds Force is not limited to military action only, but it is also responsible for coordination with regional partners and creating strategic networks. In such a situation, Vahidi’s experience is considered important for Iran in the current situation.
Role of Defense Minister and other posts
Ahmed Vahidi was also the Defense Minister of Iran from 2009 to 2013. During this time he worked on the country’s defense policy and military modernization.
He has also been a member of the Expediency Discrimination Council, which plays an important role in Iran’s policy decision process. Apart from this, he has also been the Chairman of Supreme National Defense University. This university trains senior military officers and strategic experts of the country.
Name in Interpol Red Notice
Ahmed Wahidi’s name has also been in controversies at the international level. His name is included in the Interpol Red Notice list for his alleged involvement in the 1994 bombing of the Jewish Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 85 people died in this attack.
Although Iran has rejected these allegations, this matter is still considered sensitive in international politics.
America and European Union sanctions
America and European Union have imposed many sanctions on Ahmed Wahidi. The sanctions were cited due to their alleged links to Iran’s nuclear program and their role in human rights violations during the 2022 protests. Western countries believe that Wahidi played an important role in the action of the security forces. Iran calls these allegations part of political pressure.
Khamenei family also suffered loss
According to reports, Ali Khamenei’s family members have also died in the US-Israel attacks. It is being claimed that he lost his son-in-law and daughter-in-law. Tehran City Council member Meisam Muzaffar told the journalists’ club that the supreme leader’s son-in-law and daughter were also killed. However, these claims could not be independently confirmed.
