Railways sought information from the complainant for action
After the video went viral, the railway service became active and asked for PNR and mobile number from the complainant, so that immediate action could be taken. Railways said that the complaint can also be lodged directly on RailMadad or on number 139. As per railway rules, the sockets in the coach are made for 50-100 watt appliances, while the electric kettle draws 1000-2000 watts of power.
This increases the risk of overloading, short circuit and fire. Under Section 153 and 154 of the Railway Act, in such cases, fine and imprisonment of 6 months to 2 years can be imposed. Railways has appealed to the passengers not to use heaters, kettles or other heavy appliances in the train.
