Puducherry, March 1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several development projects worth more than Rs 2,700 crore in Puducherry. These include projects to strengthen infrastructure, expand civic amenities, industrial progress, education, world-class healthcare and accelerate sustainable growth.
Addressing the program, PM Modi said, ‘It is an honor for me to be in Puducherry. It is the land of accomplished saints, poets and freedom fighters. It was here that the great poet Subramaniam Bharati lit the flame of nationalism. From here Sri Aurobindo and the Mother gave a new spiritual vision to the whole world.
He said, ‘When I first came here, I gave the mantra of ‘BEST Puducherry’. ‘BEST’ stands for ‘Business, Education, Spirituality and Tourism’. This vision has borne fruit in the last four and a half years and Puducherry has witnessed good governance and development. When the Center and Union Territories work with the same vision and dedication, results are faster and better.

Puducherry shows impressive growth in per capita income
Prime Minister Modi said that Puducherry has shown tremendous growth in per capita income. It has also achieved the highest Social Progress Index score in the country. Now, the double engine NDA government will further accelerate the development of Puducherry. Today projects worth Rs 2700 crore are being inaugurated and foundation stones are being laid.
Record to create infrastructure in this year’s budget 12 lakh crore
“High-quality infrastructure is being created across India,” he said. In this year’s budget, we have set aside a record Rs 12 lakh crore to create infrastructure. The people of Puducherry will also benefit from this. We included Puducherry under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment Scheme, which was earlier open only to states. More funding for infrastructure means better roads, water supply, coastal infrastructure, schools, hospitals and many such projects.
PM Modi inaugurated the APJ Abdul Kalam Engineering Block and Ganga Hostel at National Institute of Technology, Karaikal, modernization of the Regional Cancer Center at JIPMER and new buildings and hostels at Pondicherry University to strengthen higher education and health services in the region.
750 Karasur-Sedrapet Industrial Area spread over acres dedicated to the nation
He dedicated the Karasur-Sedrapet Industrial Area spread over 750 acres to the nation. Apart from this, foundation stones of different water supply projects were laid with the aim of improving water supply systems and ensuring clean and safe drinking water to the residents of Puducherry region. The foundation stone for construction of 41 rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, development of heritage towns in Puducherry and mangrove conservation works under the MISHTI (Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats and Tangible Income) scheme was laid.
