There will be a structured draft of domestic and international players in GPKL Season 2, well-organized and competitive teams will be created…
The Global Pravasi Kabaddi League (GPKL) on Sunday announced that a structured player draft framework will be implemented in Season 2, which aims to build well-organized and competitive teams. The league has adopted this decision after recently confirming the participation of international players from Europe, Africa and Asia.
Let us tell you, this new draft system of the league is designed to bring together domestic and international talent, thereby ensuring the participation of both male and female athletes. This will lead to equal growth of both the formats of the game.
At the same time, in GPKL Season 2, each franchise will field two teams, one for men and one for women, which will further strengthen the commitment of the league. Each team will have a mix of domestic and expatriate players, reflecting the league’s core vision of combining India’s Kabaddi strength with global participation.
Let us tell you, in the draft process, players will be evaluated on the basis of technical ability, fitness, tactical awareness and team adaptability. Subsequently, these players will be placed in a central draft pool, and franchise teams will select players from this pool through a guided draft process, strategically tailoring their selection process to the team’s needs.
At the same time, male and female athletes from many countries including England, Netherlands, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, Tanzania, Kenya, Cameroon, Hong Kong and Taiwan will participate in GPKL Season 2. Also, domestic players from strong Kabaddi areas of India will also be in the teams.
Commenting on the draft process, HIPSA President Kanthi D Suresh said, “The diaspora element is central to the vision of the GPKL. Foreign players don’t just participate in the league; they become spokespersons for the game, which in turn serves as an important means of growing Kabaddi internationally and reaching new audiences.”
GPKL plans to help franchises select players through a structured process that integrates domestic and expatriate participation. In this way, GPKL is positioning itself as a professionally governed platform that aims to popularize Kabaddi globally
