When is Holi, March 3 or March 4? From auspicious time to worship method, know everything
This time there is a lot of confusion among the people regarding the festival of Holi across the country as to which day it should be celebrated. According to astrological calculations and Panchang, due to change in the timing of lunar eclipse and full moon date this year, it is advised to be special careful regarding the dates of Holi.
According to astrological mathematics, Phalgun Purnima is falling on both 2nd and 3rd March but due to the lunar eclipse occurring on 3rd March, the arrangement of the festival has been changed. Keeping in view the Sutak period and time of eclipse, scholars have fixed March 4 as the day to play Holi.

Why are the dates changing?
Holika Dahan will be performed during Phalgun Purnima on March 2. The lunar eclipse will start from 3:20 pm on March 3. Its Sutak period will start 9 hours earlier, hence playing with colors on this day is not considered auspicious.
Pratipada Tithi of Chaitra month, in which Rang is played, will last till the morning of March 4. Therefore, it is according to the scriptures to celebrate Rangotsav on 4th March 2026 only.
