Health Tips: Most of us know that drinking water in the morning is beneficial but do you know that drinking water in the wrong way can harm your kidneys and digestive system. There are special rules for drinking water in Ayurveda which are called Ushapan.
Water is life but according to Ayurveda it should be taken like a medicine. If you drink water instead of tea in bed as soon as you wake up in the morning, then you have taken the first step towards your health. But to stay fit, just drinking water is not enough, it is important to drink it at the right time and in the right way.
When and how much to drink water
According to Ayurveda, drinking water before sunrise i.e. in Brahma Muhurta is most beneficial. One should drink water as soon as one wakes up, without rinsing or brushing teeth. This is called Ushapan. The saliva that accumulates in your mouth overnight is alkaline, which calms stomach acid and keeps digestion healthy. Initially start with 1-2 glasses and gradually increase it to 1 litre.
Take special care of temperature
Nowadays people like to drink cold water from the fridge which is considered poison in Ayurveda. Always drink lukewarm water in the morning. Lukewarm water helps in clearing the dirt (stool) accumulated in the intestines and speeds up the metabolism of the body. This also helps in weight loss.

magic of copper pot
If you keep water overnight in a copper vessel and drink it in the morning, then it is icing on the cake. Copper has anti-bacterial properties that purify water and balance the three doshas of the body, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It brings glow to your skin and gives relief from joint pain.
sit and sip
Often people drink water while standing in a hurry, due to which the water goes straight to the lower stomach and causes damage to the kidneys and joints. Water should always be drunk while sitting and taking sips. Due to this, saliva mixes with water and enters the stomach and the problem of acidity is eliminated.
Don’t make this mistake even by mistake
Do not drink too much water immediately after meals. Ayurveda says drinking water at the end of a meal is like poison. Keep a gap of at least 45 minutes between food and water.
