Gujarat: Illegal dargah was built on Gauchar land, government’s bulldozer action

In Gujarat’s Bharuch district, on Friday (February 27), the state government demolished an illegally built Dargah on Gauchar land by running a bulldozer. The action was taken in Gowali village of Bharuch district, where land of survey numbers 1456 and 1457 is recorded as Gauchar (pasture) in government records.

After the matter was brought to the notice of the administration by local villagers, an investigation was conducted, which found that a religious structure had been erected on the concerned land without permission. According to reports, due to this illegal construction, valuable grazing land of the village was blocked, causing problems to the cattle herders. Before taking action, the administration had issued a notice to the Dargah management asking them to voluntarily remove the illegal structure. However, when no steps were taken within the stipulated time, the administration took demolition action as per the legal process.

Action amid tight security arrangements

During the action, illegal structures were demolished with bulldozers in the presence of Bharuch district police. Heavy police force was deployed to prevent any untoward incident. Senior administrative officials were present at the spot and monitored the entire operation.

According to officials, the entire operation was conducted peacefully and the Gauchar land was freed from encroachment. The administration clarified that the land in question is registered as pastureland in the government records and any kind of private or religious construction on it is against the rules.

Government’s strict message

The BJP government of the state has indicated through this action that no illegal religious structures of any kind will be allowed on government or Gauchar land. The administration said that legal action will continue against such encroachments in future also. The situation at the local level is said to be peaceful and the administration has appealed to the people to maintain law and order.
